 :D

DE 30 A 50 CM

NÃO CLÓVIS. A NEVE NÃO VAI PEGAR NYC COMO O INTERIOR DO ESTADO DE NOVA IORQUE. OS ACUMULADOS EM NYC NEM DE PERTO PODEM SER COMPARADOS AO QUE SE ESPERA PARA O RESTANTE DO NORDESTE DOS ESTADOS. MAIS AO NORTE, NO MAINE, PODE SER O MAIOR NOREASTER DOS ULTIMOS ANOS. NYC DEVE FICAR COM 1 A 3 POLEGADAS. CEM QUILOMETROS AO NORTE DEVE TER ATÉ 18 POLEGADAS.

Clovito

"The National Weather Service said it measured 2 inches of snow in Central Park and in New Canaan, Conn., and Wyckoff, N.J. It reported 2.5 inches in Yonkers and 1.5 inches in Fort Lee, N.J".

This storm turned out to be very interesting... What i want to know is this.. How does 2-3" of ice/snow/sleet turn out looking like a major snowstorm. These pics fo New york city and the surrounding areas are amazing.. Cars are completely stuck in inches high ice/sleet/snow boulders.. So my question is how does 2-3 inches some how look so much worse.. I've witnessed this everywhere and others have commented on this.. Traveling yesterday on the roads, there was tons of sleet/ice etc on the road... It definitely looked a lot more than it was.. Really interesting...So can someone explain this, from a meterological perspective.. tks...jeff

Eis as medições oficiais do NWS:

That's what lots of folks are asking, as they deal with April snow and unusually cold weather this Easter weekend.

In the nation's capital, tourists awoke this morning to see spring blossoms coated with snow. But officials said Cherry Blossom Festival events are going on as planned.

Click play to watch snowfall in Texas.

Snow flurries even fell in Atlanta, which is seeing its lowest temperatures for the date in 100 years.

And it's less-than-ideal golf weather in Augusta, Georgia. As the third round of the Masters got under way this morning, temperatures were in the low 40s and winds were blowing up to 15 miles per hour from the north.

Lake-effect snows continue to plague portions of the Great Lakes and the Northeast.

In Ohio, snow has postponed a doubleheader between the Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners. The doubleheader had been scheduled after yesterday's home opener at Jacobs Field was postponed.

Early this morning temperatures in North Texas cities stayed in the upper 30s. The area had its first spring snowfall since 1938, according to the National Weather Service records.

Easter surprise: Snow falls across Lufkin

By BRITTONY LUND

The Lufkin Daily News

Saturday, April 07, 2007

Nick Tusclair celebrated his 11th birthday Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club of Lufkin by playing in the snow in temperatures as low as 34 degrees.

"It rocks," Tusclair said.

An abnormally strong cold front from Canada met moisture in the air Saturday, causing snow to fall for what may be the first recorded time this late in the year in Lufkin, according to Brian Kyle, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Houston.

"Timing was everything with this," said Gary Chatelain, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La. "It's the timing of the Canadian air mass. The air is just thick enough for snow to form."

Lufkin didn't break any records for coldest temperature — the lowest for April 7 was 31 degrees in 1971 — but Lufkin did break the record for the coldest high temperature on April 7. In 1938 the high was 53 degrees, but Saturday the highest the temperature reached in Lufkin was 47 degrees, and that was at 1:23 a.m.

"There were slowly falling temperatures all night through today and then it stabled off at right above freezing," Chatelain said.

While the snow didn't actually stick to the roads, enough of it accumulated on the grass, trees and cars for kids to have snowball fights and for a small population of snowmen to begin popping up all over Lufkin.

"The ground has to be near or below freezing for it to stick," Kyle said.

Since temperatures last week had been in the 80s, the ground temperature shouldn't have been any lower than the 60s, according to Chatelain, and chances of the snow sticking were pretty low Saturday.

"It's been too warm for it to stick," Kyle said. "It takes quite a while for the ground to cool down."

Even so, the children at the Boys and Girls Club couldn't contain their excitement at seeing the snow.

"We've never had snow," 8-year-old PJ Lewis said. "It ain't enough snow to build snowballs yet but once it gets all above the grass, then we can have snowball fights."

Many of the children had never seen snow.

"This was my first time ever seeing snow like this in Lufkin and I'm amazed seeing this much snow," 9-year-old Michael Maxey said.

Even the children who had seen snow before couldn't hide their smiles.

"It was my first time seeing it in the month of April and I'm excited about that," 10-year-old Morgan Anderson said.

Having snow in Lufkin is surprising enough, but having it the day before Easter Sunday couldn't have been more shocking.

"It's a lot for April," 10-year-old Brittany Bell said. "We made snowballs and we threw them at each other."

Patrick Sanders, the director of the Boys and Girls Club in Lufkin, couldn't stop shaking his head in awe.

"This is probably going to be the only snow some of these kids see for many, many, many years to come," Sanders said.

A stray cat named Meow which the center had lovingly adopted and has been taking care of, ran from car to car to keep warm.

"We weren't prepared for this," Sanders kept saying.

Austin Douglas, 9, of Texas City was visiting his grandparents on August Lane in the Four Seasons subdivision when the snow began falling.

"It's awesome," Douglas said. "It hasn't snowed since I was at least 3."

Pam Puff, who lives on Jefferson Avenue, helped her husband, Bill, build a snowman with family members Adam Puff of Beaumont; April Hensley, a student at Sam Houston State University; and Laura Hensley, a Lufkin Middle School student.

"It's funny because earlier they were mowing the grass," Puff said. "The azaleas have already bloomed. It's crazy."

Other than some downed power lines, causing power outages, there weren't many accidents as of 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a police department spokesman. However, police were prepared for nighttime accidents and a possibility of putting barriers up on bridges if they were iced over.

Cold, Snow Flurries Change Easter Plans

Bud Gillett

Reporting

(CBS 11 News) Some thought of it as icing on the egg as snow fell in several parts of North Texas on the Easter eve.

Officially, DFW Airport registered a trace of snow, yet for many as it fell it looked like a blizzard.

"Bluebonnets and snowflakes, it's amazing," Celeste Urbank said.

Snow flurries fell throughout most of Saturday and a freeze warning will be in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service predicts arctic high pressure will remain in place across North Texas through early Sunday morning resulting in light winds and freezing temperatures across the region.

Low temperatures are expected to fall to 32 degrees with some rural areas dropping to 30 degrees early Sunday morning.

George Hughes who was out in the snow called the cold snap "crazy."

Mikayla Massara had no complaints.

"I love the snow."

Despite the on and off snow showers, the ground was too warm in most places for accumulation.

In other places, however, some CBS 11 viewers were able to capture mini snow hills. Check out our It's Snowing in April slideshow for more of these photos.

The last two times snow fell in April was in 1928 and 1938. NWS officials said ironically, both days were April 7.

The wintry mix really surprised Judy Guthrie.

"I could not believe it, it was freezing, I went, 'Oh, my gosh, snow!' We don't even get it a Christmas but we get it at Easter--can you believe that?"

It also was a snowy Saturday in the Fort Worth Stockyards. It put a new wrinkle on Easter egg hunts. Parkas and hooded sweatshirts co-existed with colored eggs and seasonal excitement.

Justin Augustine didn't like it much.

"I'd rather be the sun out."

Dena Faulkner with Animal Edutainment brought out the heat lamps for her tiny petting zoo.

"Well, when I woke up this morning and it was snowing; it was pretty cold, so some of these chicks are pretty young and they need the heat to keep themselves warm," she explained.

A freeze warning means that sub-freezing temperatures are likely to occur. A freeze this late in the season can be particularly

damaging to cold sensitive plants and other crops. Make sure outdoor pets have a warm place to stay.

Area wakes up to snowy surprise

07:24 PM CDT on Saturday, April 7, 2007

By TY A. ALLISON / The Dallas Morning News

tallison@dallasnews.com

Light snow flurries fell across North Texas on an April morning for the first time in nearly 70 years.

The last time North Texas saw snow during the spring was April 8, 1938, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Only traces of precipitation accumulated, as the flurries changed over to light rain by the afternoon.

The wintry anomaly swept across several North Texas cities before 11 a.m. including Fort Worth, Euless, Bedford, Dallas and Plano, as temperatures hovered in the mid to upper 30s.

Saturday's high reached 50 degrees, but a freeze warning is be in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Sunday. And while the skies should be dry for any Easter egg hunts Sunday, the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies to blanket the area with high temperatures in the upper 40s.

Things will start to warm up Monday, with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s, and lows in upper 30s.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX

332 PM CDT SAT APR 7 2007

.DISCUSSION...

WHAT A MESS...EXTREME EARLY APRIL WEATHER EVENT ONGOING FOR

SETX WITH A VERY CHILLY AIRMASS OVER THE AREA...AND MIXED

PRECIPITATION!!! AS FAR AS WE HAVE DISCOVERED IN THE RECORDS THIS

IS A REAL RARITY FOR SETX (SINCE 1938) THAT WE HAVE HAD MIXED

PRECIPITATION DURING THE DAY IN IN APRIL.

AS FOR THE FORECAST--MORE OF THE SAME! MAIN UPPER LOW TO CRUISE

INTO THE AREA TONIGHT BRINGING BETTER LIFT WITH SOUNDINGS THAT ARE

SNOW/RAIN/SLEET PROFILES ACROSS THE NORTHERN ZONES AND MIXED

RAIN/SLEET SOUTH...EXCEPT RAIN COAST...AND AMAZINGLY PW VALUES ARE

HOVERING IN THE 0.9 TO 1.1" PW RANGE WITH THAT COLD OF A SOUNDING.

HAVE LOWERED TEMPS TONIGHT ABOUT A DEGREE OR 2 FROM THE PREVIOUS

FORECAST BUT WE SHOULD NOT SEE ANY ACCUMULATIONS OF THE FROZEN

SPECIES. THUNDERSNOW/SLEET IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION EITHER.

ACARS SOUNDINGS HAVE BEEN INVALUABLE IN FORECASTING PRECIP TYPES

THIS AFTERNOON. RECEIVED A GREAT PHOTE VIA EMAIL FROM A SPOTTER

IN HUNTSVILLE OF SNOW FALLING. I CAN`T BELIEVE I AM WRITING A

DISCUSSION ABOUT THIS IN APRIL! HEAVIER PRECIP AMOUNTS SHOULD BE

OVER THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE AREA BUT NOT

EXPECTING ANYTHING TO EXCEED AN INCH ALONG THE TAIL END OF THE

UPPER JETS RIGHT ENTRANCE REGION. WILL TRY TO UPDATE THE SPECIAL

WEATHER STATEMENT BEFORE 4 PM.

April 1, 1807 - the famous "1807 spring storm" buried interior New England in snow and caused a great tide along the coast. Danville, Vermont received 30 inches of new snow, bringing their snow cover amount to 60 inches.

April 2, 1975 - a severe storm over the northeastern US began on this day and blasted the area for the next 3 days. Wind gusts reached 87 mph at West Harpswell, Maine and Boston recorded its lowest April pressure on record (28.68 inches). Tides along the coast ran 2 to 4 feet above normal and anywhere from 1 to 4 feet of snow fell from western New York to northern Maine with the higher elevations receiving the most.

April 6, 1982 - the "Great Blizzard of April '82" struck New England, New York and Pennsylvania and dumped 1 to 2 feet of snow. Many places had their greatest April snowstorm ever. Winds frequently gusted to 70 and 80 mph. There was an exceptionally high frequency of simultaneous thunderstorms and heavy snow with numerous lightning strikes reported. Record cold poured in the wake of the storm and many spots were 25 degrees colder than normal the day after the storm.

April 10, 1877 - the first of two great coastal storms struck the Virginia and North Carolina coast. The Oregon Inlet was widened by 3/4 of a mile. The "entire topography of country is materially altered", according to a description of the altering of sand dunes at Cape Hatteras.

April 10, 1996 - a strong coastal storm gave New England is second heavy snowfall in only 3 days. North Foster, Rhode Island was buried under 21.5 inches of snow, while Jaffery, New Hampshire measured 21 inches. Other heavy totals included 27.4 inches on Mount Washington, New Hampshire, 20.1 inches at Ashburnham, Massachusetts, 17 inches at Windham, Connecticut, and 12.6 inches at Brookhaven, New York. Tree damage was extensive due the heavy, wet nature of the snow. This storm took care of the remaining seasonal snowfall records as records were exceeded at the Blue Hill Observatory in Milton, Massachusetts, Worcester, Massachusetts, Concord, New Hampshire, and Bridgeport, Connecticut. Many locations in the northeast now exceeded 120 inches for the winter season, with a few locations over 150 inches, making the winter of 1995-96 without question the snowiest winter on record for a large part of the northeast.

April 11, 1841 - a big April snowstorm in the northeast dropped 12 inches at New York City, 24 inches in New Jersey, and 18 inches in Massachusetts. The "Tippecanoe and Tyler, too" victory parade was impeded and the Marshall died of pneumonia. people went to the New York City polls through snow on the 13th.

April 15, 1854 - the Great Pacques storm raged for four days in New Jersey. 24 inches of snow fell in the hills with 6 inches on the 15th and 17th at New York City. 18 vessels were wrecked on the Jersey shore.

April 16, 1851 - famous lighthouse storm occurred in New England. Massive tidal flooding with storm force winds. Gigantic waves destroyed Minot Light at Cohasset, Massachusetts with two keepers lost. Great shipping losses and coastal erosion occurred.

April 23, 1993 - a coastal storm dumped big late season snows across central and northeastern New York. Two day snowfall totals included 22 inches at Malone, 19.2 inches at Tully, 19 inches at Ellenburg Depot, and 10.3 inches at Binghamton.

April 28, 1987 - a cold rain began in the morning hours over New England and turned to heavy wet snow by mid afternoon. Record amounts of snow piled up with the heaviest amounts in the higher elevations. In Massachusetts, Princeton was buried under 25 inches of snow and Ashburnham checked in with 21 inches. Even Boston, right on the ocean, had 4 inches of snow for a new late season snowfall record. 18 inches was recorded at Francestown, New Hampshire and 15 was reported at Glocester, Rhode Island. This late season snowstorm put a strain on the record books at Worcester, Massachusetts. The 17 inches for the storm was the biggest and latest snowstorm on record. Total snowfall for April was 21 inches. This broke the old record for April which was 20 inches in 1894. Total April precipitation now stood at 8.76 inches, the most precipitation in April ever. The storm also brought the 1986-87 season snowfall to 93.7 inches, the 6th snowiest season on record.

April 29, 1928 - a coastal storm dumped tremendous late season snows in the central Appalachians with 35 inches at Beard, West Virginia, 31 inches at Somerset, Pennsylvania, and 30 inches at Grantsville, Maryland. High winds accompanying the heavy wet snow uprooted trees and unroofed a number of homes. The storm caused great damage to fruit trees and wildlife.

Fortes ventos causam incêndio e trazem destruição a Los Angeles

"É fora do comum algo dessa proporção nessa época do ano.
