A seguir, a coluna que ela acaba de publicar no site da AccuWeather, onde ele, assim como nós, alerta para novos tornados. Heat Wave Means Severe Weather in South America Posted: 9-JAN-2006 20:20 January 9 A first-rate heat wave has taken hold of the middle south of South America, vast swath taking in much of Argentina along with Uruguay, Brazil's southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul and southern Paraguay. A measure of the severity of the heat can be seen at Rosario, on the flat, fertile Pampas of Argentina. The 90-degree Fahrenheit mark was breached on December 27th--and on every day since. Last week, the heat waxed severe as back-to-back 101-degree days happened Friday and Saturday. For the 13-day stretch ended Sunday, the average temperature was 6.9 degrees (3.8 degrees Celsius) above average--a most noteworthy departure for summer in such a temperate climate. There was no measurable rainfall, so things have no doubt become stressful for crops hereabouts. Any relief Monday? No way. As I write, the temperature is 39 degrees Celsius, or 102 degrees Fahrenheit--ugh. What is even more dramatic is the spread of 100-degree heat as of early afternoon, local time. Draw a line across Argentina westward from near Buenos Aires to the foot of the Andes, thence northward to the southern Chaco (scrubby plains of northern Argentina); thence east into some of Uruguay and Rio Grande do Sul. The core of this vast swath is near 105 degrees, or 40 degrees Celsius. The southern edge of the heat was beaten back over the weekend by outbreaks of thunderstorms as a cold front rippled northward. Sunday, southern Uruguay and neighboring Argentina had daytime temperatures in the 70s (between 20 and 25 Celsius) in the rain-cooled air. Today, though, the heat has reclaimed nearly all of its lost ground ahead of another cold front. Into the teeth of the heat wave will come the next cold front tonight and Tuesday. As it does, this front will kick off powerful thunderstorms (there are already some on the southernmost Pampas as I write) that will sweep northward to the area of Buenos Aires near daybreak, thence into Uruguay and the northern Pampas Monday. Beyond the front and its cooling rain, Tuesday will be another day of severe heat. The front will "run out of steam" Tuesday night, which will allow thunderstorms to break out southward as warmth and moisture override from the north. Yet more excitement will unfold Wednesday when yet another cold front will sweep northward from Patagonia to the Wet Pampas to spark strong to severe thunderstorms. These will shift northward over eastern Argentina and Uruguay. This time, the front will reach a little further into northern Argentina before stalling. The upshot of this atmospheric clash is that thunderstorms will play a big part in at least the next few days of weather over eastern Argentina and much of Uruguay, even as sweltering heat lingers farther north. On one hand, their cooling rain will be most beneficial as a whole. On the other, high winds, hail and even a rare tornado or two will not at all be welcomed. As on the Great Plains of North America, severe local weather is a price to be paid for the life-giving rains that allow these breadbaskets to yield their bounties. O pau vai quebrar feio na região em poucas horas. Como já havia alertado acima a Climatologia Urbana. Mendoza tem no momento 38,0ºC (01:00 UTC). O Aero de EZEIZA ainda tem absurdos 35ºC (01:00 UTC). Quanto à Buenos Aires, reparem que, além do calorão, a pressão está em apenas 1000 mb e o vento sopra de N. Não baixaremos dos 20°, ao que parece, até o próximo domingo, e não baixaremos dos 23° até 6ª-feira, referindo-me à POA. O Jornal Nacional destacou os 40° para POA amanhã. Agora eles estão quase em cima de mim e com atividade elétrica. Está muito abafado. Mas o vento ainda não começou. Isso está me fazendo lembrar do dia 4 de Outubro. Temporal Histórico.
