Inverno segue rigoroso no leste europeu e países nórdicos.

Winter 2015-16 could be warmest in England since 17th century

This winter is on course to have been the warmest ever in the Central England Temperature series, which begins in 1659

ukwinter.jpg~original

This winter is on track to have been the warmest in England since records began in the 17th century, the Met Office has said.

Provisional data for the period to February 24 shows that the Central England Temperature (CET) series, which begins in 1659, has recorded 7.0C so far this winter, beating a previous record of 6.8C set in 1868-69.

The CET is the longest temperature record in the world and is based on measurements at three observation stations within a roughly triangular area between Bristol, Lancashire and London.

Official national temperature records, which date back to 1910, could also be broken in England and Wales, the Met Office said, thanks largely to the influence of the record-breaking warm December.

However, a spokesman cautioned that the records could be "close to call" following the cold weather last weekend, which could yet bring the Central England average and Welsh national average down to be the joint warmest on record.

Meteorologists are preparing to crunch the final numbers for this winter - which officially runs from December to February - on Tuesday, as the UK heads into spring with warnings that March could be unusually cold.

A "sudden stratospheric warming" high in the atmosphere could reverse the high altitude polar jet stream and result in wintry weather and snow in the UK in coming weeks, the Met Office has said.

It insisted it was too early to say whether there could be snow at Easter, though the long-term forecast for the second half of the month includes sleet or snow, especially in northern areas, and frosty conditions.

Even before the formal winter weather data is released, 2015-16 has already broken records as the wettest on record for Scotland and Wales, and joint-wettest in Northern Ireland.

For the UK as a whole, provisional rainfall figures of 515mm ranked as the second-wettest winter on record, behind 545mm recorded in 2013-14.

In December, temperatures across the UK averaged 7.9C, 4.1C above the long-term average.

January saw a mild but less exceptional 4.5C, which was 0.9C above average. Provisional figures for February came in at 4.2C, just 0.5C above average.

The Met Office said a number of factors had contributed to the mild weather including the strong El Nino phenomenon.

"This commonly brings mild and unsettled conditions to the UK during the early winter period and that’s what we saw,” it said.

A spokesman added: "Given the last weekend of winter was quite cold, this may have an impact on some of the temperature data for winter in some areas."

Warmest winters (Central England Temperature)

1869 (6.8C)

1834 (6.5C)

1989 (6.5C)

2007 (6.4C)

1975 (6.4C)

Provisional 2016 data: 7.0C (to February 24)

Coldest winters (Central England Temperature)

1684 (-1.1C)

1740 (-0.4C)

1963 (-0.3C)

1814 (0.4C)

1795 (0.5C)

London weather: Rain to continue this weekend after wettest June in 50 years

afundando2.gif~original

Rain will hit London again this weekend after the capital saw its wettest June in 50 years.

After a miserable morning, the rain should clear up around 3pm today, leading to a dry night.

But showers are expected on both Saturday and Sunday, and temperatures are not expected to rise above 20 degrees.

Met Office spokesman Steven Keates said: "Saturday will be a breezy day with scattered showers but they will move through quite quickly so they shouldn't last too long.

"For Sunday, it will be the cloudier of the two days, with patchy drizzle coming in from the west.

"There could be heavyish showers but nothing like what we saw last week."

Mr Keates added that last month was the wettest June in London for 50 years and was the second wettest ever since records began in 1910.

Parts of London saw more than 100mm of rain hit in June, with flooding submerging cars and trapping commuters in tube stations.

Weather guru, David King, also told the Standard he expected it to rain throughout the whole of July.
